Administrative Assistant
The Mountain States Genetics Foundation (MSGF) is in need of an administrative assistant. As you may know the mission of the MSGF is to be the primary voice advocating and supporting education, awareness and access to medical genetics information and services in the Mountain States Region (Arizona, Colorado, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Utah and Wyoming).

We are looking for someone that shares this mission and values. The position is part-time, usually less than 10 hours/week. Time is spent managing our database, sending informational emails to the database members, arranging conference calls for the MSGF Board, making arrangements for board meetings including travel. The position will require an increase in hours as our annual meeting approaches, July 17-19, 2008. The meeting will be held in Denver, therefore a local applicant will be preferred to work with our meeting planner. The applicant would be expected to attend the entire education conference and help as needed. Attendance would also be expected at all Board meetings and on all Board conference calls.
This is a contracted position, without benefits, and a salary of $20/hour.

MSGF Administrative Assistant Job Description:
This position will require a highly organized, self motivated individual who has a desire to assist with the administration of the activities of the Mountain States Genetics Foundation. This person will need to be highly proficient in Microsoft office suite, especially MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. This person should also have experience in using databases. Excellent oral and written communication skills are highly desirable. This person will play a large role in the implementation and success of the 2008 annual meeting and will need to be available up to 40 hours or more per week during the months of May, June and mid July.
Duties will include, but not limited to:
- Conference call setup
- Face to face meeting planning including all travel, food, and lodging arrangements required.
- Taking of minutes at phone conference and face to face meetings.
- Updating of website-including monitoring for changes and current information, communication with webmaster.
- Database management-Update all contact information on Act database, including sync this information with other database users.
- Facilitation of communication with all members of the database. Most often accomplished through mail merge.
For the annual meeting:
- Keep track of all registrants-including all contact information, payments received, travel requests, hotel reservations, etc.
- Assist in the management of agenda including contact with speakers
- Apply for CME for physicians and CEUs for genetic counselors.
- Assist with hotel communications including meeting rooms, food, AV needs, etc.
- Produce and print handouts to be included in meeting packet
- Produce name badges
- Check in meeting registrants
- Other tasks as needed.

Cytogenetic Technologist
A full time position in the Shodair Genetics Laboratory, Helena, Montana is immediately available in our Cytogenetics section.
We enjoy an integrated team environment including molecular diagnostics, prenatal screening and our clinical genetics group.
This medium sized lab analyzes approximately 1600 cases per year and continues to grow. Analysis is performed on all specimen types, prenatal, postnatal, oncology and F.I.S.H. for constitutional and acquired abnormalities. Our laboratory will allow you to use all of your cytogenetic skills and develop new ones as we continue to expand our services.
Shodair Children’s Hospital is located in Helena, the state’s capital. Research Technologist
Research Technologist – Requisition 075315
General Summary:
Conduct biochemical and molecular experiments in a laboratory that uses modern molecular and biochemical techniques (such as sub-cloning, polymerase chain reaction, antibody production, immunoprecipitation, gel electrophoresis, confocal microscopy) to understand the molecular basis of growth regulation (tumor suppression) and differentiation in development. Work with and maintain Drosophila stocks, produce transgenic Drosophila embryos, and contribute to general laboratory operations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a science-related field required by June 2007; experience in genetics or molecular biology and basic laboratory procedures (pipetting, solution preparation) preferred.

Doctoral Scientist

The Department of General Services, Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services (DCLS) is seeking a qualified candidate to work within a team of laboratory professionals within the Newborn Screening Laboratory. DCLS, the Virginia state laboratory, is the largest public consolidated laboratory in the United States. With a staff of over 200, DCLS provides analytical services in support of numerous local, state and federal law enforcement, consumer protection, environmental and public health agencies. Our brand new, state-of-the-art laboratory building is located in downtown Richmond's biotech research park; beaches, mountains, Williamsburg and DC are less than 2 hour drives.
Position CL607 will support the Newborn Screening Laboratory by providing interpretative analysis of complex laboratory results, including mass spectral analyses. The incumbent will develop and perform advanced laboratory techniques; research techniques involved in the identification and/or confirmation of numerous metabolic disorders, as well as the identification of hemoglobinopathies, endocrine-related disorders and Cystic Fibrosis. As a doctorial scientist in Newborn Screening this position may employ a broad range of techniques involving complex protein chemistry, DNA and RNA analysis, analytical and/or clinical chemistry techniques. They will also assist the Lab Group Manager by providing technical training for laboratory scientists as new testing procedures are migrated into the production lab environment.
Qualifications include a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry or relevant biological science; with research experience strongly preferred. Postdoctoral experience needed in genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, analytical and/or clinical chemistry. Experience needed in method research, method development and method validation. Experience with the interpretation of mass spectral data strongly preferred. Selected candidate must meet CLIA requirements for Technical Supervisors.
Additional qualifications include a demonstrated, comprehensive knowledge of clinical chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics; knowledge of laboratory science and quality assurance programs; and knowledge of statistical methods and computer applications. The selected candidate must possess effective communication skills; be a skilled scientific writer and demonstrate an ability to work effectively in a team environment. Candidate must also demonstrate knowledge and skill in the theory of teaching/training; possess knowledge of standard research procedures and possess effective grant-writing skills.
Selected candidate must pass a fingerprint-based criminal history check. Sponsorship will not be provided for this position.

Genetic Counselor
Shodair Children’s Hospital, a specialty hospital providing medical genetic services and child and adolescent psychiatry, invites applications for a full-time genetic counselor.
The medical genetics program at Shodair provides services at its Helena facility and locations across the state through over 70 outreach clinics each year. Our general genetics clinics include prenatal, pediatric, cancer, and other adult disorder consultations. The Medical Genetics Department currently has two board certified medical geneticists and three board certified genetic counselors. Recruitment for this position is prompted by increasing demand for medical genetic services and corresponding department expansion.
Shodair offers a full range of medical genetic services to patients of all ages. The hospital’s laboratory services include DNA testing, maternal serum screening, and cytogenetics.
