About the Foundation

The Mountain States Genetics Foundation is a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) organization dedicated to providing education, information and networking opportunities for consumers and medical professionals in the Mountain States Region and beyond. The MSGF was founded in 1993 by Robert McCurdy, M.D., a retired pediatrician specializing in medical genetics. The Foundation’s continuing mission is to be the primary voice advocating and supporting education, awareness and access to medical genetics information and services in Arizona, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Texas, Utah and Wyoming, as well as providing extended information regarding genetics services through our Web site, http://www.mostgene.org/.

Through support of the former Mountain States Genetics Network and the current Mountain States Genetics Regional Collaborative Center, our long-standing history of networking and education has allowed us to work together toward achieving our goals for more than fourteen years. As we move forward, the Board of Directors of the MSGF will continue to manage its resources to support consumer education and dialog between medical genetics professionals and consumers to discuss issues regarding access to genetics services, privacy, progress in medical research of specific genetic disorders, and medical ethics. To this end, the Foundation will host an annual education meeting in Denver, Colorado in July 2008.
